What in the world happened here....

Well i decided to give my engine a little clean up after just purchasing it. Well i sprayed it down with the hose, and put some Sea Foam in it to help clean the inside of the engine. well when i was done i tried starting it and it wouldn't turn over after 5 seconds (usually takes 1-2) so i stop and tried it again. took me 5-6 times before it started but then it started miss firing. I know i got water in there somewhere and it just needed to dry out, but what got wet that made it do that? All i know is it was arcing to the block or frame. and i couldn't get above 2000 RPM unless i gunned it and then it would miss fire like all hell broke lose. What'd i do to make it do that? or what got wet besides the spark plug wires? (that would make it not go above 2000 RPM)

Well you made one big mistake.( Ok so it's not the biggest mistake you could make)
Your not supposed to wash the engine bay on a lt1. Your car is probably miss firing because you got the opti wet, it may be ok once it dries out or you may have to replace it. Some of the other board members can give you more info on this.

Also with the arcing (not sure if the opti getting wet could cause it to arc) but if the arcing is coming from one of your plug wires then you'll need to replace that since that will also cause a miss-fire.

Well it runs fine now. About 45 minutes later it all of a sudden decided to work right and quit miss firing. It would idle really rough and shake the car pretty bad, but then all of a sudden it quit and stopped shaking and hasn't miss fired yet again (knock on wood). So do you still think i should replace the wires/plugs?

Hopefully you'll be fine. Let it dry out some more and see if it does it again. If it doesn't consider yourself lucky. Since its a new purchase it wouldn't hurt to change the plugs and wires unless you know someone done it recently before you bought it. Some might disagree, but I changed out everything I could after I bought mine just to be sure.

Re: What in the world happened here....

Just test drove it again, seems just as normal as before i wetted it down. Although i noticed my RPM will shoot well past 6000 now...? it got up to about 5500 then shifted before, now it'll go to 6000 or more until i reach 60 then shift. (it shifted at 60 before too, just not at 6000 RPM)

Re: What in the world happened here....

IT is not the wires or plugs. Guarantee it is the optispark. That is the distributor on the motor and is vital not to get it wet!
