What is this, and what is it's purpose?
Hi, I'm getting a custom Y-pipe made, and I need to change/adjust this piece: (where the green is)

I need to know what it is, and what it does. I need to drop it an inch or so, so if it is an important stress piece or something, then I'll have to figure out something else.
But if it's only like a support in case the driveline or something breaks, that would be great.
Can I drop it like an inch without any problems?
Any help would be great, and Thanks in advance!

that is the tunnel brace.
i'm not even sure if its needed, seems i've heard some guys mention that it isn't even included on all cars. if you look at the mounting spots they aren't even that structurally strong. you could lower it if you wanted, but it may give you a low spot to scrape on everything...

Basically stock its a driveshaft saftey thing, incase it drops. You could take it off and not notice it, obviously by looking at how ****ty it is you can tell. But if you make something or buy BMRs tunnel brace you might notice an increase in rigidity of the car. I had to make my own because my catback pipe kept rattling on it.
