Why V6?
Why V6?
I am an owner of a black 2001 Z28. I have a question for all you V6 owners. Why do you buy them and soup them up? I can understand buying a V6 for financial purposes, the V8 may get a little pricey. I can see it from a fuel economy standpoint, dont want to pay to much for gas. I can see it for insurance purposes. You dont want to pay a fortune to insure the car. Or maybe you dont want all that power. I understand why you all bought V6s. But for all those of you who buy a V6 and spend a fortune on mods that will net you about 50-100 hp, depending on what you do the car, why dont you just buy a V8, instead of the money you waste modding the 3800, go with the LS1 which gives you an additional 110-125 stock, on 8 cylinders. This is not supposed to be a rude question, it may seem like it, however that is not my intention, I simply would like a response to a logical question?
I understand what you are saying. I would have loved to have a Z28 or an SS. I got a V6 for a couple reasons. One being that I couldnt find a Z28 or an SS at the time that had what I wanted. Plus, since I am 15, my parents said no to a V8, therefore, I got a V6. I wanted to do modifications on my car to make it a little quicker. I think there is more of a challenge in making a V6 fast. You can buy a V8 and its already fast, you just make it faster. You buy a V6 and its fairly slow, respectable, but slow, and its more of a challenge to make it faster. I also do not race my car very much so I dont really need all that power. Why would I want to pay so much more for power I dont need, yet anyways. This probably made no sense but oh well.
Don't you think all the reason you mentioned add up? Add the cost of insurance each month and gas. Insurance for a male under 25th is unreal. Most are on limited budgets and still in school.
On spending money on mods that is a one time shot for each mod opposed to an ongoing monthly bill (insurance and gas).
I first bought a V6 in 95, at the time it was purely financial. I had been married for 2 years and just started building my house of which I put 30% cash down. I knew that over the next few years I would be incurring expenses related to the new house and a baby that I knew we would have in a year are so. I also maintained a residence overseas from 94 thru 99. I was into car stereos more so than speed at the time so it made no difference to me. When i got tired of the stereo stuff I turned to speed. Now I have a Z :-)

My dad buys themcuz he likes 2 door sporty cars with 5-speeds but he isn't really into modding, and v6 maros are dirt cheap he bought the 94 3.4L for $13k new off the lot, and bought his 2000 v6 Maro for $15k, fully loaded except for leatehr and t-tops.
He does want a z28, and is now considering a vette, but I am in college and so is my other brother, so he is taking it easy on blowing money on not so practical cars, with such bills around.
I traded my 92 GMC jimmy with blown head gasket and slipping tranny to him for the 94 3.4L, straight up, he traded the truck in for his new 2k.
I had an 85 camaro, trashed the motor and was inthe process of building it up, but college came up and I ran out of money so I sold the 85. Only car I had to play and work with is my 3.4L, It had 95k on it before the first mod, I started modding things that crapped out, and went form there. Only thing that I have done thats pure mod and not a mod, to replace broken part is my sway bars, STB, and underdrive pulleys( I did these when I needed a new drvebelt)
msot my mods are pretty cheap and done at home by me. I am still in school, so still broke, msot the moey thatoges to my car is for racing events, Autocrossing goes by classes, not by fastest car with most moeny in it wins. More drive orientated, and drag racing is jsut fun. I really love cars, racing htem and modding them, jsut because I am in school and broke does it mean I shoudl give up my hobby? Beleive me I tried other hobbies liek model car bulding but never really caught on to them.
I am in hell, goy who has an expensive hobby but no money to support it

Because other than the '03 Cobras and the occasional Viper or Vette,if you buy a Z28 you own the road. There is no real challenge if you win at the strip.Would you rather hear "Whoop-e-de-doo, that Z28 just beat me,what a surprise
" or "Holy ****,you just beat me with a V6??!!".You win with a Z and it's expected. You win with a V6,or hell, ever run a decent time, and people stop and say "wow".You meet all kinds of people that way. They will come up to you at the strip and start talking racing, which is what this sport is all about. If you think you have to be the fastest guy on the street then you need to study Zen and lose the self (ego).Just a few reasons I had a V6 (damn ex took it in the divorce) and why I want to get another one in the future.

When I bought my Firebird, I had been looking at a 1997 red WS6 Trans AM MN6.
20 years old. FULL coverage (woudln't have it any other way): $534/MONTH.
3800 W68/Y87 car: $254/month until I FINALLY turned 21...then 25.
1 CAI
1 Catback
1 STB.
No payments EVER on the V6...but I'd have had them on the TA.
Which seems the more WISE buy in the short term and long term?
Done.
So is this thread...
...again.
