I would run 10w-40 in the summer and 10w-30 in the winter.

I run 5W-40 at 86,000 miles, and my friend recommended i switch to 10W-30 since my oil pressure is a little lower than before.

Find a new friend. 40 weight is thicker then 30 weight

So I should go with 10W-40 instead of 10W-30?

forgot to mention... I dont drive the car in the winter. ...well I will on rare occasion actually, but it definetly is not my daily driver

also, my idle oil pressure is about 20, and my 'anything above 1500' pressure is 38'ish

Why don't you try different weights for yourself and find out what works best for your application. Everyone has diffferent resuts, but IMO, as long as you run synthetic oil with a good filter, there's not much to worry about. You can try: 0w30, 0w40, 5w30, 10w30, 10w40, 15w50, etc. I think the only oil that you may see a difference with is 15w50 because its alot thicker. But once again, you may notice your car running undesireable with that weight oil. Just try something new every oil change until you find something you like. Good luck.

My car has 96,600 or so on it and I'm running Mobil 1 5w-30.. With my mileage, I'm pleasantly surprised that I don't have to add any oil between changes.. I'm losing a tiny bit from the front cover somewhere, but it's really an insignificant amount.

throw in some 80-90 wieght, that should get the pressure up.

It worked on my Simplicity lawn mower. That thing used to have low oil pressure and burn oil pretty bad. A little 80-90 in there thickened things up......it been running that way for 2 years.

M1 5w30 runs thin and with use can become a 5w20, a bit too thin for the LT1 reguardless of all the Vette crap and stuff, other 5w30 DO run thicker, before you say I am wrong do some research into actual analysis results. Best thing you can do is try some other oils and you will quickly find one that runs better, I would start with one of the 0w30-40, a 5w40, or a 10w30-40. Personally I am running a heavy duty engine oil usually marketed toward diesels but is gas rated, it is Rotella T synthetic 5w40 cost $12.88 a gallon at Walmart. I have a ZZ3 cam roller rockers and appropriate springs, and the motor is so quiet the guys I Power Toured with said it sounded stock, and the roller rockers are 30K mile old Proforms. I was supposed to do an analysis of my last fill of this oil, but had a friend over working on his car when I drained it I spaced out and forgot to sample till after it was all in the drain pan mixed with other oils .

83xxx Miles on the clock and I switched from 10w-30 dino to
0w-30 German Castrol Synthetic and my oil pressure increased. Do a search on it, its closer to a 40w than a 30w and provides awesome bearing protection on LT1s.
