at what temp do the heads warp usually?
at what temp do the heads warp usually?
today i was driving my car to a friends to pull the motor and the friction from the spun bearings heated the block up pretty good, coolant temp got up to about 123 celsius according to the datalogger at which point i shut it down and let it cool down. what are the odds that i warped a head?
Re: at what temp do the heads warp usually?
250*F is not head-warping hot. Unfortunately you shut it down at that temp, which means it got hotter than that. Shutting down is not the way to cool an engine. You need coolant circulation and airflow.
Re: at what temp do the heads warp usually?
i over-heated my iron head/iron block like 8 times max.
It had a busted head gasket, it ruined my piston rings and bent my rod(same cylinder as the head gasket leak).
Steve, it may have gotten hotter, but the reason it was overheating in the first place is because it had no coolant due to the H/G leak. So there was no "circulation and airflow" fix unfortunately.
If 250F is not hot enough to warp it, what is?
