what are the symptoms of a normal sbc t-stat in an lt1
There it is. It's been years since i put the thermostat in. I didn't buy it, so i really don't know. I'm just now learning that there is definitely a difference between an sbc and an lt1 thermostat. i'm just curious as to what symptoms one might have if a normal sbc thermostat is installed. my car runs fairly hot, i have overheated it a few times driving it around town. but driving at speed (40 and up) it runs around 150. when i overheated it my cooling fans were on a switch. even with the fans running on high it still overheated. i've recently put the fans back to factory. just being curious and i'm not going to jump at the chance to get coolant on my opti just to make sure i have the right t-stat. Since i normally drive country roads this isn't a huge issue. Thanks in advance.

The SBC thermostat won't seal the top passage of the pump, so it would be more similar to running with no thermostat.
It should be easy enough to check though. Drain some coolant out of the water pump/radiator, pull off the water neck and pull out the thermostat.
