This can be a big argument... Most people would probobly say the '95... It had a little more power than the '94 and '93, and it was the last year of OBD-1. If you look around, you will notice that a lot of OBD-II cars are converting to OBD-1.

I hear a lot of people say the 95' is the strongest but logically you would think it would be the 97' because after 5 years of producing the LT1 you would think all of the kinks would have been worked out and most performance squeezed out.

The question as presented is barely worth asking. You could probably line up all years, side-by-side and depending on driver, there would not be a car length between them all at the end of the quarter mile.

There are more things to consider like:
speed density vs. MAF
4L60 vs. 4L60E (in cases of A4)
M28 and M29 vs. MN6
OBD1 vs. OBD2
non-vented opti vs. vented
...
It all depends on how you want to massage the car and what road you want to take to reach your goals. There are advantages and disadvantages to all. The best bet is to read up on all years and decide for yourself.

I think the 97 was rated at 285hp stock, a 10hp improvement due to the dual cats.

Yup, you're correct, 285hp stock and definitely due to the dual cats. I'm currently driving a 1997 camaro Z28.

How does dual cats gain 10hp??? That is just a restriction in the exhaust flow. Why do you think most people (that are able to) REMOVE their cats to get a little more performance???

you would think 97.

-last yr of the LT1...all the bugs gotta be worked out by then
-dual cats...freer flowing exhaust
-*recently discovered*....heads flow a little better
-OBD2....might argue it manages fuel more efficiently than OBD1. pure speculation
-new tail lights and interior...hafta be worth 5 ponies at least!

pushing less exhaust thru 2 smaller cats is freer flowing than pushing ALL the exhaust through 1 large cat.
