What size are the nuts that hold the egr valve on ????

hey guys just wondering what size the nuts are that hold egr valve on ? also does the rest of the egr system use to same size ? I did a search and I got a bunch of different things about threads and bolts but I just wanna know what size wrench I need to change the egr as all I have at home is a socket set. Thx , Justin

8mm I think, they are close to 5/16 but are not that.

No, the EGR valve itself is held on by 13mm (or 1/2") nuts. The EGR pipe is 3/8", I believe.

I was talking about the studs/bolts that go into the intake manifold that hold on the air and egr.... I know the biggest tap I use on a intake is the 8mm one I have.

Yeah, that would be the actual thread size. I thought he was asking what wrench size the fasteners were.

Just removed my emmissions a few days ago--the nuts that hold the valve and the pipe are both 1/2 inch. Oh, and off topic, thanks for the quick help Injuneer.

1/2" wrench size 5/16"-18 thread. They are not metric.

More fastener info you might need sometime.

any hints at getting at this thing ? Standing on the tips of my toes leaning over the motor I can just put the tip of my middle finger on the vacuum connection . Sometimes I hate LT1's lol . I was thinkin maybe taking the cruise control box off might make it easier but I dont have time to do all this before work today.

Do you mean "taking the TCS box off"..... the cruise box is up in the driver's front fender.

yeah my bad, lol , i figure it will give me more angles at it. The car is running terrible right now , I scanned it and its leaning out the passenger side bank for some reason , I guess I need to go ahead and check the injectors , I cant think of any other reason why it would lean out one bank between 6 and 17% even while cruising. Is there any way a leaking egr valve could let fuel and air leak back into the exhaust if you didnt have alot of backpressure ?? Its leaning out to the point of detonation once it gets warm enough with the a/c on. Im fighting a losing battle with this car.

edit oh yeah I forgot to mention when it starts running poorly (detonating) my map pressure rises from around 30-40 (normal for it) to high 60-70s. Is this another indication of detonating. This is my first fuelie car , im not used to all these sensors

Re: What size are the nuts that hold the egr valve on ????

checked the injectors before work this morning , none seem to be leaking as the fuel system primes . one was missing an o-ring tho so I put a new one in as the rest seemed to be in prettty good shape. It now doesnt appear my injectors have anything to do with one side running rich or at least thinking it is. I guess back to the drawing board altho now I have to take the injectors out again because it seems one of the orings didnt seat right and its getting to much air on drivers side now lol but dint have time for that before I went to work.

Re: What size are the nuts that hold the egr valve on ????

Exactly what is the scanner showing? One place you say its "leaning out" and then you say "one side running rich". What are the long terms.... "+" or "-"? A missing o-ring on an injector would really throw that bank off, causing one cylinder to run excessively lean, pass the O2 through to the exhaust and cause it to increase the long term on that side, adding fuel that 3 of the cylinders don't need.

Might help if you posted the scan data.
