What Should Your Car Idle At???

I have a 94 camaro z28 m6. I just installed the lt4 hot cam. I had my pcm tuned by pcmforless. They changed my idle settings. My car idles at 1 grand even. What should my car idle at???? I would like to lower the idle when I get it dyno tuned. That way I can hear the cam better also. I was wondering what the stock z28 cars supposed to be ideling at???

Stock programming (fully warmed up coolant):

M6 - 800rpm

A4 (in gear) - 550rpm
A4 (in neutral) - 650rpm

I doubt they will want to bring the HOTcam under 750-800rpm, but I could be wrong.

Recognize also that the stock tach can often read 100-200rpm above actual idle speed. You need to put a scanner on it and read directly off the PCM to get the actual idle speed.

My car was idling at 650 rpm in neutral and 550 in gear at normal operating temperature according to the stock file. It is a 96 A4.

My 97 M6 idles at 1050. Is that too high?

Are you reading the stock tach, or directly off the PCM?

Even on the stock tach, 1050rpm sounds too high for an M6. When you installed your 52mm TB, did you adjust the idle stop screw to the desired rpm, while measuring IAC counts on a scanner?

Re:

What would be the best idle for my car with the hot cam. It's at 1k according to the tach inside the dash. It was at 650 around there before and it was about the stahl out on me allot. But the cam was really really looping. I would like to have the idle set at maybee 750-800. Does anybody think that idle is too low for the cam- Mike. ALSO will the dyno tune place know what would be a perfect idle setting for me - Mike

Nope. I didn't know I had to do anything to it. I guess I'll go try and find this screw tomorrow and see what I can do.
thanks for the help.

My M6 idles at 800 - 900 RPMs (reading of the stock tach)

Sometimes it idles at 1000 or a tiny bit over.. but I think thats only when it's colder out.

Mine sits at 950 on the tach, but when interfaced with the PCM it reads 750-800, so the tach is definitely off...
