As noted.... clarify. Is it popping in the exhaust? Is it popping back into the intake manifold? Under what conditions does it backfire.... what RPM, what engine load?

Has your engine been modified in any way?

If you want HELP you have to provide the requested info. Let's try this again:

Under what conditions does it backfire.... what RPM, what engine load?

Are you running a cat? Has the exhaust been modified in any way?

Misfires in the engine can cause fuel and air to accumulate in the exhaust and ignite ("pop"). This can be even worse if you have cross-firing between the wires. If that's the case, you need to find out why its misfiring. Could be plugs, wires, IC Module, coil, Opti, injectors, sticking valves, etc.

Knowing WHEN it pops may help us figure out what is causing it. Youo can't just jump to the conclusion that its the coil.

Have you scanned it for codes?

I removed my cat.. now when engine winds down I get popping. I am going to have a tune done on my pcm and hope that resolves the issue... if not, I'll put the cat back on.

Popping in the exhaust on decel is fairly common and doesn't necessarily indicate a problem. How long has it done it? Ever since you removed the cat? How long ago did you remove the cat?

yep, it pops on the way down after revving. it's because i removed the cat or at least added to the underlying issue of the car running very rich.

that's why I'm hoping the madz28 tune will lean it out a bit.. i heard that these cars respond very well to a leaner mix.
