is there a short block ...which is more common ....i know of big blocks and small blocks ....but no long blocks

 

I could type a smartass reply and it would be funny, but I'll spare you. A longblock is a complete engine that includes the heads with the valvetrain and the intake manifold. A shortblock is just the engine block and rotating assembly.

If you buy a long block from GM it doesn't come with an intake. A longblock is pretty much complete from valve covers to oil pan and includes a balancer and flexplate. You have to supply your choice of induction, water pump and any accesories.

 

Agree. A long block does not generally include an intake.
