What heppens if you reve?
Re: What heppens if you reve?
it's not really great to just sit there and rev it (actually, it's pointless). as long as you aren't bouncing of the rev limiter or holding it at high rpms it's not real bad.
i don't recommend reving it for no reason though.

Re: What heppens if you reve?
prob wont do anything, but... why do it? revving it to rev at someone is no big deal at all.. but to just rev, and if you do it 24/7... i guess maybe it COULD cause damage, but even then, unless your revving to 6k all the time (which is retarded) shouldnt do anything

I was bouncing off the rev limiter (6700 rpm's doing a burnout
) and ruined a lifter. So yes, reving is bad for the engine. Not to mention that on a stock ignition system it cuts the fuel and not the spark to your engine, running lean is BAAAD for your engine.

Tap the pedal down, throw it to ~4500, and enjoy. Sure, don't do it at every single stop sign over the life of your car, but if somebody wants to listen to your engine, it's not gonna hurt your car.
Remember: 4500 is fine, even 5900 is probably fine, just don't hold the pedal to the floor and let the computer tune it down for you.
Re: What heppens if you reve?
Revving is okay, in general.
Spinning the engine causes wear, and the faster it spins the more quickly it wears. Extremely high RPM can break parts (see post #6).
Hitting the rev limiter means that the computer is cutting fuel to prevent you from revving any higher. Cutting fuel means a lean mixture, which means a hotter burn, which can in time mean burning a hole through a piston (for example).
Avoid hitting the rev limiter, and know that the parts on your car are going to wear out eventually, just like every other car. Other than that, have fun!

Has anybody ever melted a piston due to revving at a stand-still? Technically pure air is a "lean mixture", but I won't believe that pumping pure air at high RPMs through your engine is going to cause detonation.

Re: What heppens if you reve?
when i said rev engine, i didnt mean to bounce off limiter lol... ive maybe done that 1-2 times on accident for maybe a half a sec... hah i know that will hah
