high end 3rd noise

high end 3rd
Maybe someone can tell me if this was knock retard not sure what?or like gas pinging just tell my it was fuel associated please.
Well I opened the Camaro up on a desolate road.Started real good not too much spin in 1st no noises, reved it way up and grabbed 2nd spun a bit.Reved 2nd up went for third still no prob like usual pulled like a *****.But as i'm toppin 3rd around 5,400-5,600 rpms I start hearing this tappin or rattling a noise I havent really heard before with the car IMO not good .And as this sound started I just shifted to 4th and it went away??On I went no stange sound. You know its hard to descibe sounds.Just hoping someone has this happen so I can think it's normal.
I did just get union 76 91 octane(highest for cali)I'm thinkin it was the fuel. But I go there all the time.
When I got home I stethoscoped on the valve cover above each cylinder.listening while throttling with the other hand 1,800-2000rpms no unusual knocks, tapping or that sound.Put the scope on the block couple places and reved it no unusual sounds like the one experienced. Oil level full
Car runs fine, coarse I'll be listening more when cold tomorrow morn.
I was thinking maybe I'm a little lean now w/ the ftra and high flow catback?I think its time to go to the dyno shop to find out how its doing on the top end or something.

I was just about to post about this yesterday. I have the same noise, but I think I found the culprit. It happened to me in 5th, winding out hard on a freeway merge ramp. I thought for the last several weeks it was a loose O2 sensor "ring" for lack of a better term--there's a piece around the O2 sensor's base that can loosely rattle around. I figured it was shaking due to the exhaust/engine vibrations at high rpm/high load.
I happened to push on the shifter yesterday while it was happening and the noise changed. Turns out I can all but eliminate the noise depending on which way I push on the shifter. I wonder what is not engaging properly in the transmission (M6 here too, 2002 SS, stock everything)? Is this a sign of a bent shift fork?
