then wouldnt it be spliced into the temp sensor? or does the temp sensor and fan run through the same system?

The temp sensor voltage is used by the PCM to turn the fans on and off according to the programmed temperatures. The PCM does this thru the relays. Your temp switch seems to be wired in order to override the PCM.
