Larger plug just above the filter.

is it just a threaded hole?
if it is then its nothing...thats where a manual clutch pivot would go on a sbc

It looks like it is for a old school mechanical clutch . It should go straight through to the flywheel area .

I didnt put anything there when I put my motor back together.
On a seperate note what did you need to run the oil filter w/o the cooler? I'm considering removing mine...

it is, you are correct, it is the exact same adapter, swaping the bolts is all that is needed

I believe its 5/16-18 thread, 1" long maybe?

pull a stud and take it with you
