What Exhaust Gasket to use with MAC Headers?

Topic says it all. I remember some people used to say buy stock gaskets from the dealership? Anyone?

OEM for me. No leaks at the block.

I've used OEM and Fel-Pro , not had a problem yet.

The GM aluminum gaskets seem to do well with MACs, at least according to everyone on the board. I've had two sets - the first set blew because I bent the gasket accidentally while installing.

The 2nd set I'm on now has no problems yet..

Fel Pros are more flexible, and I prefer them because of the open ended 2 bolt holes, not that you couldn't cut them yourself if you wanted. I also re-used my Fel Pros without problems.

hey doc,
i've heard the felpro gaskets won't work with mac headers unless certain parts of the gaskets are cut and the bolt holes are enlarged.

Just what i've heard, not too sure how true it is.

Hmm, the bolt holes are a little tight, as for the exaust side they should be larger than what is on the head, so it should not constrict the header. I've never tried the combo though, interestin'.

I used the 1406 Felpros on my MAC header install and no problems. You have to cut the last "flange hangy thing" off (front of the motor). Other than that they are working out nicely.

Another vote for OEM exhaust manifold gaskets.

I want to change my answer here- the Felpros do NOT work right with the MACs. After fixing the lower exhaust leaks, I can now here a huge one at the header to head connection. Going to use GM gaskets now
