What engine oil grade should i use?

I've got a 96 SS camaro, 5.7 manual. It's got 53k miles and it's been mistreated by previous owners. I'm going to change oil today. Got the filter. What grade should i use? On engine it sais 5W-30. I've seen people say they use 10W-40 and someone recommended me 10W-60 as a racing oil. This car is my daily driver, i race it sometime but it's not the purpose of the car. I'm probably going to buy Castrol, but what grade? (I don't live in US i'm from europe, but i can get american oil from a store).

Thanks!

If you'e in Europe, see if you can find the German made Castrol 0W30.

Thanks guys! I bought 6 quarts of Castrol 5W-30 Synthec, made in USA, it's cheaper than european oil ^.^

1L european is about 18$
1 quart is about 10$

hence...even if a quart is 950ml it's still a bargain. And same company, same grade, Castrol 5W-30.

USA FTW!

The 0w-30 Castrol labled made in Germany is MUCH better than most of the other Syntecs, as measured in used oil analysis.
