What else do I need before header install?

Any advice or parts I should buy prior to doing headers. Bolts? Gaskets? Dont want to start it and have to stop in the middle for some $5 part. I know this is a long process....just dont want to get slowed up any more than I know I already am.
Thanks.

A nice set of bolts + a pair of gaskets should do it. Stage 8 locking bolts work pretty good from what I have seen..

You would probably want to consider doing plugs and wires when you have your headders off.

One other thing, some mechanics gloves might save your hands!!!

You are gonna need lots of patience. As stated above some good bolts and gaskets. I used stage 8 locking header bolts and fel-pro gaskets. I also needed 02 extensions (only needed if doing long tubes), and just to be on the safe side some OTVC wires. Just take your time and remember it will all be worth it when you start it up for the first time.

if you didnt have a tune up in a while now is a good time to do it since the manifolds are out of the way. It is alot easier to change plugs and wires. also buy a good set of header gaskets because you dont want to change header gaskets every week.

Buy some heat reflective tape and wrap some around the wires that are in close proximities of the headers. Also wrap some around the spark plug wires, that way none of them will get burnt either. That tape works great for me!

Motor Mounts!! If your car has some miles on it they are probably sagging, and your new headers will drive you crazy banging on the floor or whatever else they are near. I had 91K on my car when I did headers and the mounts were really saggy. It was a pain to do the mounts with the headers already on and I wished someone had told me to repalce them. I used the Energy Suspension poly mounts and they seem to work well. They are much stiffer than stock, and only about $25 a peice. save yourself the headaches the later. Good luck. Oh, and don't forget the beer. Lots of it.

Thanks for the replies. Does anyone have specific part numbers for the ARP bolts and Fel-Pro gaskets? Thanks.

Great idea! I'm doing headers soon myself. I'll definitely do the engine mounts.

Beer helps, but not too much of it. When you start wondering why there are TWO cars in your one-car-garage, it's time to stop the beer.

I used the dead soft aluminum gaskets from percys.....they are killer. After the head work, i RE_USED THEM..yup..and no leaks. well worth 40 some dollars.
