what the duece is going on here!!??

ok I have a 95z with a remote start. I can start the pos with the remote starter, however when I put the key in the ignition and try to start it normal, the radio comes on but the instrument panel does not nor will it crank. now I can turn the key back towards me to try and turn on the radio that way and it wont come on. I can't figure this thing out. is it the chip in my key or is the the thing that reads the chip? is it a bad ignition switch but if it was the ignition switch why would the radio come on one way and not the other? Some help please, I'm bout ready to blow the MF'er up.

Sounds like the VATS. Cost an arm and a leg to replace the ignition but there is a way to bypass it using resistors i did it to my 94 Trans Am. Do a google search and you will find it

A remote start would bypass the switch by using a relay. Your switch that works by turning the key could be bad and not be allowing the car to start manually. If needed, you can find switch replacement info on my Tech Page.

yeah the ignition switch was the first thing I thought, but wanted to ask around before I started throwing parts at this thing. I talked to a shop manager I know and he mentioned something about a wire snaking through the column so I dunno I guess I'll try the ignition switch first.

The only wires in the column related to this are the two that are from the key cylinder that carry the reading of the key pellet to the VATS module. If you have a remote start, they are already bypassed, so they don't really have a bearing on this situation.

Anything is possible, but it sounds like your normal ignition switch could be bad. It's going to take some investigation.
