Good deal or not?

There is a local guy selling an LT1 and A4 for $600. I was wanting to put it in my S10 blazer. He said it has 154k miles on it. I was wanting to put it in there with out rebuilding it since it would be a hunting truck and not get driven that much. I'm trying to do more of a budget conversion.

Is this an iron-headed or aluminum-headed LT1?

It's more of a deal if it's the aluminum-head out of an f or y-body.

It's out of a 95 TA so aluminum. Includes computer and harness. I know it's a pretty good deal, but do you think I would be safe puting it in the Blazer with out rebuilding it?

Honestly there's no real way to tell without putting it in. You could run a compression/leak-down test, change the plugs and wires, and do routine maintenance on the engine before you put it in, but until it's in the Blazer, running smooth and shifting smooth, will you be able to tell for sure.

Just consider that 150k is quite a bit.

I'll bet the motor is fine but the trans is probably dead or close.. Buy just motor and build trans IMO... Price sounds right...

Since the motor is out, I would go ahaed and freshen it up. New bearings atleast.

When I tore down my lt1 for the first rebuild the cylinders and main bearings were fine at 150k, but the cam bearing were showing wear - especially the front one.

The cam driven waterpump is pretty hard on that front bearing, and at 154k I would rebuild it now while its out.

It would suck to throw it in and then have to take it out a month down the road to rebuild it.

depends. I pulled apart my motor in my z28 with 115k and the internals looked better than jsunz (sp) motor on here with 40k. it really depends on how the motor was taken care of.
