what does this connect to???
what does this connect to???
Ok guys...please bear with me (newbie here).
I decided to clean my MAF today. After I removed the air filter box and elbow that connects from it to the MAF, I discovered a small hose (about the lenght and thickness of a pencil) with a "L"-type elbow at the end just hanging there loosely, not connected to anything. If It were bigger it might look like a plug wire. It is directly below where the elbow that I took off was only about 6-8 inches down.
I can't see where it runs to...looks like back into the engine somewhere (not sure). I'm sorry, I don't have a camera so I tried to draw a picture:

I posted the pic on a yahoo profile. (sorry all I could think of). The car seems to run fine and isn't throwing any codes.
Any one know what this connects to?
many thanks,
Hank

Re: what does this connect to???
I'll start by guessing this.
If it is a black elbow, it might be something for the AIR system. Might be something in this stuff

Re: what does this connect to???
wow shoebox, you don't play around! thanks for the quick response but unfortunately it is not that. this hose is thinner and is much lower than that. with the air filter box in place you couldn't see it. with it off, I can look straight down and see it. I have to reach way down in there just to grab it. It doesn's have enough play to reach up all the way to the MAF area at all. looks like it is meant to connect to something down in there.
Re: what does this connect to???
Did you look closely at the vacuum lines shown in Shoebox's AIR pump diagram ("this stuff")... particularly the ones shown in the lower row of diagrams in the center? Is your AIR system intact or has it been removed?
Re: what does this connect to???
injuneer....it has never been tinkered with as far as i know. perhaps in the morning i can jack the front end up and get a better look in the daylight.
Re: what does this connect to???
looks like i could get a better view from under the car. it does look similar to the vacuum harness in one of shoebox's diagrams. wouldn't I be throwing some kind of code with it disconnected though?
Re: what does this connect to???
hey shoebox...where are you?? The hose in question looks exactly like the
vacuum control hose in this picture. however the hose i'm looking at seems to be hanging from the bottom front driver side of the engine, almost directly below the air filter box..straight down
thanks again

Re: what does this connect to???
yeah, i'll have to get a better look in the daylight. The scary thing is i don't know how long i've been driving with the thing off. I have noticed that my gas mileage has been way off for about the last 4 weeks. Maybe this little guy has something to do with it??
anyway i have the whole day off work tomorrow to spend on the car: oil change, fuel filter, & all that good stuff.
thanks for your input and quick responses.
