Has a cast crank and 2 bolt mains, but is nice nonetheless. Has no oil pump, that kinda worries me. And if you read it, it is confusing as to whether it comes assembled. And no main studs, or mention of them.

If you want a NICE shortblock contact Victory racing engines.

Or a middle of the road shortblock, Golen engines.

I know for a fact it has no oil pump, and as for main studs it says

"Main Stud -ARP Main Stud Kit"

Nothing special, but also nothing wrong with it either. Really depends on what you intend to do with it?? I've had a cast crank 383 in my 84 for years, (street/road race), and have had NO problems with it.

well my old pistons and bearing and whatnot are toast, so instead of rebuilding i want to get a 383. its gonna street and strip. Mainly a fast car to drive and a fun car to race i guess.

My vote goes for an LPE 383 short block...Top of the line parts, extreme, meticulous attention to detail in machining and assembly...Not cheap, but well worth it if you are serious about going fast and lasting a long time...I'm going into my 13th year of racing and street driving my LPE 383...Next on the list would be Victory, then Golen...

The components are what they are. No way to judge the quality of the work.

People think to seem all shortblocks are assembled equally for some reason.

Agree. It's seems obvious, but the importance of careful, proper assembly seems to be a foreign concept to some people.

I dunno... call me paranoid, but regardless of any internet shop's reputation I would much rather deal with a local engine builder. That way if there is a problem you can deal with the shop personally to get the issue resolved instead of this "We're 99.9% postive..." crap that some dolts like to delve out while on a long distance phone call.
