In addition to the intake, GM sold a block-off plate for the later design optispark front cover. It not only seals the hole through which the opti connected to the camshaft, it has an integral timing mark for setting the timing with a light. It would require the use of a balancer that had a TDC mark or that was marked in degrees around the circumference. The block-off plate attaches to the front cover using the bolts that originally secured the opti. A standard small-block distributor will fit through the hole in the usual location at the rear of the manifold. Once you get this far, setting up the rest of the changeover will be pretty much like a regular, carbureted small block engine.

thanks.

i didn't know about the block off plate..i was thinking of just leaving the opti there.

also if some one bolted on just the intake and carb would it be legal for the bolt on record?

some people have diff ideas of what bolt on is.

i seen they swaped valve springs and roller rockers on the record holding car..not sure if people would think bolting on a carb intake an carb would be legit.

i guess you get the bolt on record aslong as you dont mod the heads, gasket match the intake to heads, mess with the cam or anything in the short block or pull the heads off to put a thinner gasket in to raise the compression.

the carb. intake isnt going to mess with performance that much anyways, and adding on a carb is no diff. than adding on a throttle body, so, id say its fair game. Contact shon herron ask him since hes the current record holder lol

I agree, this should have no problems with being a "bolt-on" car.

I made the switchover on mine, so far I'm really happy with mine.
