what is the cheapest scanner that will count misfires

Im not looking for the best, im just looking for the cheapest scan tool that will give me misfire counts on individual cylinders. i have been trying to track down a random misfire for a while and i believe if i could see which cylinder(s) are misfiring it would give me a place to start. I bought a 300 dollar scanner from autozone that said enhanced gm parameters but would not show misfires so i returned it. If someone could post a link to a page where i can buy a scanner that will do what I need that would be awesome.

I see you know you need an enhanced scan tool. Go over to Amazon and search for OBDII scan tools. Read the descriptions and the reviews. If you find one you like, check for prices online, as you might find it cheaper than it is on Amazon. BTW, sometimes it takes a little time for the tool to pick up the individual cylinder misfires. You'll probably get the P0300 before it picks up the individual cylinder.

AutoTap software will give the misfire count by individual cylinder, if you buy it with the "GM Enhanced Parameters" option.

I have the above. Good stuff. However if you have a cam other than stock...usually the P0300 has to be programmed out due to the timing changes(you'll get false misfires).

I purchased a used copy of Autotap for a lot less than new, you might look into that option.

I'm aware of that. He does not list a cam in his "signature".

Is it possible to detect misfires through a scanner or a datalogger with OBD1?

you could have autozone scan it. i had mine scanned when i first bought it and it detected some misfire and told me at least what bank it was, can't remember if it told me the exact cylinder. also its free

You may be able to find a used a snap on scanner for cheap. A friend of mine bought a used Snap On MGT 2500 for a few hundred. I use the same scanner at work and find it able to do most anything i need on American and Japanese cars.

The cam comment wasn't directed at you. I was just adding that because it's something I found out myself. I should have been more clear.

Ace, you said this: "I have the above. Good stuff. However if you have a cam other than stock...usually the P0300 has to be programmed out due to the timing changes(you'll get false misfires)."

That says everything everyone needs to know, accounting for obvious unknown cam. Good info, thanks.
