The XE 224/230 and the LT4 Hotcam are very similar with the XE coming out better with a flatter torque curve and lower rev requirement.

If you fear the XE 230/236 would be too much a require a stall, then why not split the difference and go with an XE 227/233 from Combo Motorsports?

What's wrong with having a higher stall than stock? Just curious...

Ok, stock stall speed is 1600 RPM...

SLP sells a 2400 RPM stall coverter (it's an adjusted stock one I think)

Most people recommend a 2600-2800 RPM stall for the milder cams.

The LT4 Hotcam is I believe 218/228 on a 112 LSA with .525/.525 lift.

The XE 224/230 is going to be 224/230 on a 112 LSA (but you can get it with a 114 to make it more Auto friendly) and I'm not sure of the lift. The lift depends on the lobes you chosse for the cam.

The whole purpose of a stall coverter is to get the motor into the cam's power band faster, so the car will get up to 2800 RPM (using a 2800 RPM stall as example) really quickly so you can get into the fat part of the power band and get moving faster.

Once you start upgrading the car, the power band shifts upward in the RPM range and the car has to work a little harder to get into the power band than it did simply because that band has now shifted higher.

A guy in my car club has a 2800 RPM stall converter, and at light throttle inputs it acts much like the stock converter, but it will stall higher and hit harder at higher throttle inputs.

A higher stall also slips more, making it somewhat easer to keep the car stationary when you have lower idle vacuum in the case of a bigger cam.

If you're not worried about getting into the fat of the torque curve right away, then I wouldn't worry about a stall converter right away.

I would think you'd be ok with a stock converter with either an LT4 Hotcam or the XE 224/230... There are hundreds of people here that would tell you different.

It can't hurt to try it anyway...

Nothing really wrong with a higher stall until you start getting in the high stalls, like over 4k. After that I think it makes it difficult for city driving, espically in rain or snow. I could be wrong though, converters aern't my strong area.

That's why they make lock-up stalls, for highway driving...
