What brand would you choose?

A little background, 95 Z28, Stock. Having a little trouble keeping it running. Would start no problem, drive for a little bit and then die. No ses light or anything. Then i would have to waite sometimes for a few minutes before it would start back up( it would just crank). Other times it would start right back up run for a little bit then die so on and so forth. So i was told by a friend and after a little research to have the ICM tested, I did and it failed. So I want to get my car going for the weekend and I know i should get the AcDelco but at this point can only chose between autozone (Duralast) and Advanced auto(Borg warner). So out of the two, Which would be a better choice? Thanks for the help, Justin

Of the 2 Borg Warner. Assuming for the moment that it is a thermal breakdown issue. Why don't you try warming it with a blow dryer and start it up to see if it's giving you the same issue. I have seen many here get the wrong advice from the cheap auto parts stores.

Try to buy it from the store that diagnosed it and note the name of the "person" that said it was bad. That way perhaps you can bring it back if it turns out they were wrong.

Incidentally, get a new coil also if you haven't replaced it in over 60K miles. They are considered a "tune up" item.

Might want to also consider plugs, wires, cap and rotor if it's been a long time since you did those as well. Not related to your "dieing" issue but just good maintenance practice.

Well i only have 38K on the car. I can look into getting a new coil as well it could be bad too for all i know. I brought my ICM and coil to autozone to have it tested and the guy didn't really look like he knew what he was doing but after 15min he said everything passed. So a week later i decided to bring the ICM to Advanced auto and within a minute they told me it was no good. So I'll have them test my coil today as well. I was thinking of doing a complete tune up like plugs/wires and i want to get all the fluids changed but it will have to wait about a month.

I checked carquest and they wanted $125. I think I'm going to go with Borgwarner at Advanced.

Well i went with the Borg Warner from advanced. I put my car on the road today and it runs great. So far so good. I've been taking it out with no problems. I also did the cooling mod while i had it all out. Now my problem is i bought some c-5 rims and the front are 17x8 or 9 and the backs are 17x8.5 or 9.5. My problem is the fronts are on and fit fine but the backs wont go on. It's like they wont clear that hub. It looks like it's wants to go on and I've tried to muscle it on but it just wont go. So I'm going to take them off. Thanks for the above input. Justin

I think there is a procedure on Rob's web page... www.shbox.com ... were he outlines how to make late model wheels fit on an early model 4th gen. You;re right, the hub diameter is slightly smaller but it's aneasy fix....

Thanks, I see that i can take a Dremel tool and grind off what i don't need on the hub to make it work. I don't really feel comfortable doing that cause wouldn't that throw off your balance, alignment or make it drive weird? I guess though that site wouldn't steer you wrong. But it doesn't matter the new parts only fixed the car for about a day. I just got home from the car doing the same old thing.

Throwing parts at the problem with NO diagnosis is never the answer

Are you talking about the tune up (which is now going to happen next weekend) or warming it up with a blow dryer? Now I'm only a little mechanically incline so do you mean hold a blow dryer on it till it feels warm then try to start it? Again, Thanks for all the help. Justin
