what is the black plastic box with hoses running to it..?

what is the black plastic box with hoses running to it..?

its on the front of the engine on the drivers side and most cars i see have removed them ...what does it do and ho do i remove it .....thanks


ps i have a 95 trans am

I'm guessing you're talking about the AIR pump? Do a search and you will find plenty of information on it. Check Shoebox's site for diagrams (and everything else under the sun ).

The AIR pump runs for a couple minutes at startup to help the cats heat up faster. It has no affect on performance. Removing it saves 7# off the front end. You will need to plug the holes in the exhaust manifolds, and cap the 5/8" connection on the inlet air duct between the filter and the MAF.

thanks for responses i didnt know what it was to do a search but i am installing long tube headers so that will fix the exhaust part and the rest i guess just plug off ....thanks

some headers come with AIR hookups also. my pacesetters did and i just went to lowes and bought a steel plug and put them in.
