Even on a Vented opti....? I didn't think that you could put them on wrong because the pin wouldn't fit in the other holes.....i might be wrong....

For the final time, the CPS sensor is NOT USED FOR TIMING. Thats not the problem.

Cause 1 = You have your rocker arms too tight. Get them to the point where the pushrod doesnt move up/down, then 1/2 turn past and lock. There is a specific sequence to this, and must turn engine over.

Cause 2 = your opti isnt on correctly. Make sure its in the hole, and not in the clover shape. It should almost snap into place. and be flush with timing cover. DONT use the bolts to pull it on.

Cause 3 = You installed your cam wrong. I dont care if 40x people checked it, its easy to mess up. I did mine wrong and SWORE it was right, as did my buddy who helped me. When i went to the track and ran 14s at 97 mph, i knew something was up. Sure enough, it was a single tooth off. You better hope its retarded and not advanced if this is the case.

Vented or non-vented, people have put them on wrong. Based on your info, that's what I would check next.

I told you... I know how probably don't want to hear it but I think this is the problem like I said before. The vented opti only goes on one way. The hole is every distinctly marked and is a unique shape than the other openings on the back of the opti. It's seems that the problem is not electrical, so I'm thinking it has to be something mechanical.

They can only go on correctly one way. They can go on incorrectly several ways.

Just make sure it pushes all the way flush with the timing cover..When mine went on wrong it wasnt exactly flush with the cover so I would check that before you pull it off..Im sure you can get under the car and maybe check that.

G'Luck!

Re: What all controls timing....

did you ever get it running I am having the same exact problem and I have been looking trough old threads for the last hour and to my luck not one person has come back and said that they fixed it or found the problem... PLease help there are many of us with this problem and after all this work while it was cold out and doing it in my driveway I would like to see what the solution was for everyone instead of pulling everything apart to see that the opti is on right or the timing chain dots are lined up perfect
