Werent ALL m6 96 vettes LT4s? I have heard that over and over again. Anyways, i saw an auction on ebay that listed some heads from a 96 vette. VERY vague description on heads, said for lt1 or lt4

So i emailed the guy, asking for casting number and if it was from a 6 speed car b/c i was trying to find out what they really were.

He replyed with a LT1 casting number, yet said it was a six speed car. What gives?

 

All M6 C4's had the LT4, AFAIK. As to what this guy is selling?

I thought it was at LT4 Vettes had an M6. I believe one could get an LT1 Vette with an M6.

any corvette in 96 could have m6 lt1 or lt4,the lt4 was only in grand sports or collecters edition cars.

 

you could get an LT4 in a regular vette in 96 cause Chevy dumped their remaning LT4s in them before the LS1 came out. They did come in the collector and GS also. As to them being particular to the M6 i do not know.

 

Yes, I have yet to see an auto in a 96 GS or 96 Collector Edition that had LT4s.

 

Well after what has been discussed here, ALL M6 1996 C4s have the LT4. Of the pics I've seen of 96 Vettes with the 6 spd, every single one had a red intake manifold which supports the LT4 info.

 

Correct,

96 Corvette automatic = LT1

96 Corvette 6-speed = LT4

no exceptions

 

I wrote the guy back, he read my message but didnt respond. Oh well, ill take my chances that the casting number he gave was correct and not bid on the heads.

 

You could get a LT4 with an auto. My old boss, at the dealership I worked at, had one


And yes it was an LT4 right down to the vin.

 

GM did NOT couple the LT4 with an automatic tranny...see the October 1995 issue of Motor Trend Magazine...complete story on the LT4 motor.

 

He must have been able to pull strings at the GM level. No way he ordered it like the average customer.

 

Take a look at the manufacturing numbers sometime for '96 C4. Last I looked the # of LT4's matched the number of M6 cars.

There were something like 13 made. His was silver.

Believe me it was a LT4 because I did the Rocker Recall on it for him, and replaced the a 26lb injecter on it as well
