Went to the track with new mods

I went to the track (1/8th mile) today in my '94 Trans Am to try out my new stuff. When I was stock I went 9.26@76 with a 2.19 60 ft. I have since added FIPK, cutout, and sfc's. Tonight I ran a 9.22 @ 78.44 with a 2.24 60 ft.! WTF!!!!!! I spend about $400 to run .04 faster and gain 2 mph? What the hell!!! When I went the 1st time the temp was 75 and 30% humidity. Tonight it was 88 with 81% humidity. Does this effect it that much? I'm getting some nittos next and hopefully I can get in the 8's. There was an '01 SS running and he hit consistent 8.8 - 8.9 @ 82 or so. Does anybody know what my times equate to be in the 1/4? Thanks a lot for your help guys.

Chris

yes the temp/humidity does affect these cars that much. I'd say you did pretty good with those mods honestly, the cutout and FIPK together are worth maybe 20-30HP, so 2mph give or take isn't far off

A 13 degree temp and 51% humidity increase will definetly make a difference. The ET is traction related as you lost .05 from last time, but you gained near 2.5 mph even with the hot weather. Get you some DR's and run in some good weather and you'll be happy.

Humidity owns the LT1. That, and the .05 drop in the 60' time equates to about .10 at the end. You gained 2+ MPH, so I really think you're right where you should be, just work on that short time, and catch some better weather.

Ok, good! Thanks a lot guys. How much does a 60 ft. really effect the final ET? I know it's ery important, but if I dropped it down to a 2.0 where would that put my time at? I guess summer time in Texas isn't exactly prime racing conditions. Well I'll try an October night with good rubber and see how that goes. Thanks a lot guys!

From what I've noticed every .1 you knock off your 60', that's about .15 off your 1/4 mile ET. I'm not sure about 1/8th mile though... I don't have my timeslips handy.

hmm the other night when I went to the track my first run was a 14.3 at 99.6 with a 2.3 60ft then my next run was a 13.8 at 99.9 with a 2.1 60ft .. go figure just the .2 drop in my 60 gave me about .5 in the quarter

SFC won't help your time at all. So, I would pretty happy with those times considering the temp and humidty.

Man it sure is nice having knowledgable people around to teach me some things! Thanks a lot for your info. Just out of curiosity, what are the ultimate weather conditions? I'm guessing cold and dry. Thanks again.

Well, you can't go too cold or the track won't hook. The 13.09 pass I made was in about 35* dry weather, but traction was a huge issue. That pass was made on a 2.02 short time, on Nitto DR's.

I'd say best weather would be mid 40's to mid 50's and dry. Cold air, but warm enough for the track to stick.
