went from rice to LT-1
Well i have my first technical question. Is the A4 trans just 4 gears or 4 gears with an over drive? I thought it was just 4 gears but i'll be driving around 60 and my rpms will be around 1500 ,i'll be giving it a steady throttle, then my rpms will kick up about 100 then they'll go back down. I have an SES light on for the EGR valve i don't know if that would be it or not. What do you guys think?

ive never had that problem when cruising though, unless you have cruise control on, but I dont have a light on either
An A4 is 3 foreward gears and an overdrive gear. Actually its like having 4 1/2 gears since when the TC locks up you drop RPMS like a mini gear change. My car still has 2.73 gears and with a catback, homemade CAI, and TB bypass I went 13.8's.
man, i dunno about some of these posts on here.
it depends on where you want to go with the car and what you want to do with it as to where you should go.
the TB bypass reroutes the coolant to not go through the throttle body and get heated up by it before cooling the engine. i've seen an actual 97 WS6 dyno before and after a TB bypass only and gained 6 rwhp. both runs were done at the same operating temps. it's easy to do and yes it does help.
you should forget about the MAF, it's not worth the money spent on it. an airfoil is a good mod, u'll see maybe a couple ponies out of it and it's about as cheap as it gets.
definitley get a CAI. cooling mods are also great and pretty cheap. 160 thermostat and get or make a manual fan switch, really easy to do, and you can keep your car pretty cool while waiting at the track.
A Torque converter is definitely going to give you the best gains. i would go about 2800-3200.
with those 3.73s and especially if u get a TC then you are going to have to worry about traction. LCA relocation brackets are one of the best mods for traction and work great even on a stock ride height car. besides that, most suspension stuff won't do you much good for traction besides a torque arm which is expensive and unneccessary until you hit some real power.
and that post about 18s is ridiculous. more rotational mass is harder to spin and power robbing.
and i hit 13.9 in mine bone stock but i'm in TX at almost 0 feet above sea level. good luck and have fun with ur new car. nice to see somebody converted over.
