But you see this is just the thing, I heard otherwise...and now I am leaning towards believing you have to take it out. Because the person that installed my EWP left it in like you just said, and it ended up making a whole heap of problems for me. I'll put it this way, the water pump drive shaft is missing quite a few teeth now lol.

Generally anything SMOG related will instantly throw a code. I know my car had a misfire and it let me know about five seconds after it became consistant.

Yes it will throw a code and set off the SES.

It sounds to me like the bushing might still be in your water pump, and the drive shaft is rubbing against it. I've been running my T/A for over a year now with the electric water pump and the drive shaft still on it and there have been zero problems. Although... I have been looking for a diagram of the Water Pump Watchdog system since I cannot find mine anywhere.
