If it goes again I'll probably try an electric pump - I'm just a little nervous about actually taking the drive gear out of there. Something about working inside the engine and taking the timing chain off worries me =P

So I don't know, this isn't too helpful for you other than stating that an e-waterpump would obviously require more work to install.
BTW, we just used whatever brand the new waterpumps are from Checker/Kragen (not a reman one). I don't trust Autozone crap - I've had so many faulty parts from there it's downright scary. So we just went to Checker and had them pricematch the waterpump. Not only was it about $100 cheaper, it actually saved us 5%

No problems so far, in fact the car is running cooler than ever. Although that could be partially due to having a working thermostat now, and a MadZ28 tune.

edit: The waterpump has a lifetime warranty, too.

I don't know what your taaking about dude!! You don't need to take off the timing chain or anything, you just leave the drive gear in there and let it free wheel!

I recommend the electric. And, if it does need to be replaced, you can change the electric in under an hour!! It's really easy.......

you leave that gear in, in case you ever want to go back to stock. There was a post just the other day he wanted to go back for some reason....and he removed it.

I run a Mezire <sp?? electric water pump. Install was simple, I have not had any issues or problems at all. I love it. Mine is not a daily driver, but is extremely reliable--depending on how well your wiring skills are.

I love my EWP. easy install.
I've considered building a simple warning system (2 LEDs).
I monitor it the same way I monitored my stock one; if the engine
starts getting real hot or you have coolant leaks, troubleshoot it

Ditto with everyone else. Just installed and elec. w/p last month and it has been working great. I admit I'm watching the gauge like a hawk though. I'm pretty impressed how well it has been working out so far.

He's right. All you need to do is remove the coupling between the waterpump and the drive shaft.

That was nearly impossible to get off in mine. I used a BFH and sat the coupler on a pipe and banged it with a hammer so it would separate from the driveshaft.

You will need to remove the shaft and bushing from the water pump when you remove it from the motor, but there's no need to remove the water pump drive shaft from the motor.

And, actually, you can switch out an electric water pump in less than 30 minutes

PS: I got a CSI.

Anyone tried the Summit $135 electric w/p yet? I wondering if its a clone of the CSI/CSR or Meizere.

Re: well, my waterpump just died....

I have a CSR EWP. I removed the A.I.R. pump and used that wiring for the EWP....it was fairly straightforward. If my EWP pops the fuse I'll get an SES light. The PCM will think the AIR pump blew it's fuse. Buttercup and someone else (sorry can't remember) came up with the idea and did a write up.
