Well I talked with comp...
Unfortunately they were not very helpful at least the smartass guy I talked with. Didn't seem to know more than his computer recommendation
The question I really wanted answered was how grinding a cc502 on a tighter lsa would affect the powerband and torque production. He simply said that the idle would be horrible and need a dyno tune from above. Heck even on a 108 lsa it would still have less total lope than a hotcam.
When I pressed him further he seemed to think I was an idiot for wanting to differ from the shelf grinds. What is the optimum lsa and icl for maximum (lowend) torque? I know Vizard likes 108 for 350's but I am unsure how well that will work with my stock head lt1 a4.
I am not concerned about lowering the powerband or idle quality or emissions. Just want my dd to haul *** on the street from a dig. I got my h/c ls1 for the topend dept. The car will be tuned.
If anyone has any software to play around with and could overlay the different curves of the lsa that would be most appreciated!
Bret, Mindgame, Injuneer any thoughts...

Re: Well I talked with comp...
I have a dyno test of just that. . .
They tested a 106, 108, and 110 LSA on the same cam duration, same engine, etc. . . Peak hp (570 fwhp) was within 2 from the highest to the lowest. However, peak torque was dramatically different. It gained something like 40 ft-lb peak going from a 110 to a 106. Both peaks were at the same rpm, but the narrower LSA made way more torque, but had less over-rev.
They also documented a dramatic reduction in vacuum at idle, as well as piston/valve clearance.
Also, note that the LSA is ground into the cam and can not be changed by adjusting the ICL (advance). In other words, an LSA of 114, if installed 4 deg advanced, would have an ICL of 110 and an ECL of 118. If you install it at 0, then the ICL and ECL are both 114. And so on. . .

Re: Well I talked with comp...
Mike, I agree. I, too, have called Comp for advice and felt that I knew more than the guy on the phone. It gives me a sick feeling about all the money I spent with them, and they give a happy meal budget towards tech support. In addition to lack of phone support, I've had E-mails go unanswered. It's like every vendor wants a website with contact info, but they never give it the resources to turn it into a working model.
I think it's because every company stresses sales, and customer support is a cost drain and therefor just a necessary evil. After all, once you buy the product, you have spent your money. Once you need help with it, you are costing them money and eating into the profit margin. The fact is that shortsighted attitude costs repeat business and also loses some first time customers as well.

Re: Well I talked with comp...
i would also recommend a 108 lsa with 4 degrees of advance ground into it. which would make the icl 104. depending on the rest of your drivetrain setup maybe you should look into the cc503 or one of the new xfi grinds ground the same way.
