well, attempting to change header gaskets from the top........am I crazy??

My felpro gaskets are gone, or so it sounds anyways......car made a loud thicking noise under accelleration. Anyways, tonight I took the driver side header off of the block but to me the gasket seemed to be ok??? I dunno, maybe its screwed or maybe the majority of the leaking is from the pass side.....

Anyways, what methods do you guys recommend to get the old gasket off of the header and head?? Would emery cloth work??

And with regards to bolts, I have stage 8 locking bolts (although I never did lock them the first time). They are 1" and I have the 3/4" ones from hooker.

I ended up purchasing GM stock gaskets this time.

And with the dip stick, is it possible to take it off replace it all from the top??

Oh, and another question. After the install is done, how often should I be re-tightening the bolts with these GM gaskets??

If you are using the Stage8 and put the locks on(may have to grind a few to get them to fit) ya shouldn't have to redo them. Get the gaskets off with a scraper and sand if ya like with a 280 or smoother grit.
Get the Berslin(spelling) bolts they are simple to lock, but a little pricey.
