Weld Pro Stars or Pro Stars XP's ???
Weld Pro Stars or Pro Stars XP's ???
I decided I was going to get some rims/tires for my debute this year and want to look good. So I have decided on getting some Welds and need some input. I have put links where I could to make it easier for your viewing.

I have heard some people say you need spacers if you run the Pro Stars in the front. What about the XP's and spacers?
How much grinding is involved with the Pro Stars vs the XP's?
Do I need a special stud to run the lug nuts? Pass tech?
Summit Racing has the BFG for the 15" rim as 28" tall. Is this correct? I do not have a problem with that being I could use the rollout from a taller tire.
Will these setups fit under my car? If not, what did you do or help do to get it to fit? Fender well issues? Turning issues?
If I missed something, let me know and any help would be appreciated.

"Front runners" for 15" wheels are available in 24" diameter and up. Or are you trying to put a "skinny" street radial on the front, and drive it on the street? If so, I wouldn't put a 3.5" wide wheel on the front of a street driven car.
After you clarify your specific intentions, we can give you the details of installing the Pro-Stars, including grinding, spacers, longer studs, backspacing, etc.
Or try a "search".... I know I post the Pro-Star info at least once a week between LT1 Tech, Drag Racing and Apprearance.

I tried a search and I have seen many pictures of them and some details, but not enough hence this thread. I want to know some details involved in getting them on my car.
Car will be a street driven only on sunny days. I never plan on running slicks on this car. I have had a couple of drag only cars and it simply got old for me.
About the 3.5" tires, I could live with that, but I do not have a problem running a wider rim.
Do I need to put studs in to run these rims?
When I called Weld about the rims, I was instructed to run a 17" or 18" rim. That would be fine if I did not care about traction.

But how is the car driven? If you ever want to go around a corner with your foot on the throttle, 3.5" wide rims a with under-sized front tires won't cut it. How often to you go to the track? Are you planning to run drag radials?
Sounds like what you really want is some "drag" style wheels for some street tires. If that's the case, just get the XP's. I don't think they require anything in the way of longer studs, special lugs, spacers or grinding the rear calipers.
Pro-Stars, on the other hand, require all the above... 2.67 - 3.00" studs, extra long-shank mag style lugs, a 5/16" spacer on the front, and grinding the fins off the calipers on the back. I personally wouldn't go through all that hassle for a set of street tires, or even DR's.
You mention 28" BFG's... are you talking about 275/60-15 DR's at 28"? There are 275/50-15 DR's at 26". A 28" tire will barely fit in the rear wheel openings. Anything larger requires a can opener. And 28" tires cost you almost 10% rear wheel torque (like going to a lower numerical rear axle ratio) compared to stock 25.6" tires. Ok if you have 3.73s or 4.10s.

Weld Pro Star XPs are only available in 15x6 front, that is the smallest width. I thought I had 15x5s but they are 6s.
No grinding or spacers with the XPs I just bolt em on and go.
If you go with a 15x10 in the rear be advised they only come in 5.5 BS nothing deeper. I have 15x10 in the rear with Nittos and they stick out a bit, (some say alot) The lug nuts that come with the setup will not pass tech if your car is faster than 12.99 some tracks will let it pass some won,t.
The regular Pro Stars are lighter than the XPs.
I just went with a taller tire to help cure my header clearance problem. I need to check but I think the cheapie tires I have on now are almost 27 inch overall diameter.
I like them alot and it was worth it to me not to have to mess with the spacers and grinding and crap.
I don,t know about the longer wheel studs and what lugs to use cause you have to use the lugs with the shoulders (is that right?) on them, long shanks that go into the wheel not the acorn type.

I called a buddy that works at Summit and had him check inventory. No Weld Pro Star XP's 15X6 unitl an estimated end of August, maybe September.
Well, that is just not gonna do.
So tonight I will see if my new Centerline Telstars fit.
15" X 4" - 5 X 4-3/4" - 1-5/8" BS concerned about sticking out?
15"X8" - 5 X 4-3/4" - 5" BS
BFG DR's 275-50R/15 meaty
5 packs of acorn lugs, the better ones, no rusting, no chipping, like $10 a pack
Total out the door was like $772.

Bogarts are simply IMO far to expensive for a street car. An all drag car, no problem.
I fitted the rims last night. No problems whatsoever with the calipers. A rare, direct bolton.

I put them on today and snapped a couple of pictures if anyone is interested.
