Weld in cage question

How do you install a weld in cage? My car is a hard top, so no real access to the top of the main hoop. Can it be welded and painted outside the car and then slid through the door opening?

Otherwise I can't see how you could weld the top of the bars and paint them

Also, do you need SFCs if you have a cage? I have an 8 point cage on the way...just wondering if it will do the same thing.

From my experience, you gut the interior, put in the main hoop and fit it up loose, then weld the rear braces to the hoop and then weld the hoop to the floor and the braces to the package shelf (or fender humps)., then the front braces. Then you paint it.... it ain't pretty when the car is all ripped apart. Other than in a convertible, I can't conceive of assembling/painting the bar outside the car, then moving it inside. Maybe someone else has a way to do it, but I didn't, even with T-tops.

any half decent/good/great welder can do it in the car. mine was done in the car and we never pulled the headliner.
my guy falls into the great category IMHO.

i would also do the frame connectors, cage does wonders but connectors make it better.

I don't have a cage but lingenfelter skipped subframeconnectors when they put together their LT1 383 racecar because it had a cage.

I have a Phenoix preped car (if you follow SCCA, they are well known for thier GM monsters) and with a 12 point cage, I still noticed a differnce going with SFC. its not as a dramatic improvment as if you didn't have the cage but it is defently worth the time and money IMO.
