Every now and then when i get on my car it'll hit the revlimiter before it shifts what do i need to look at?

 

What do you mean it will hit the limiter? Will the rpm's just fly and you won't accelorate? Do you mean you won't shift UNTILL it hits it? Throw some more detail in there. good luck... and just try to explin best you can.. i just had to rebuild my trans

 

No it accelerates to the point right before it shifts it hits the revlimiter the tranny is brand new strait from gm has around 3k miles on it.

 

Maybe i'm reading wrong.. but i don't see what the problem is then... at normal speeds it is shifting properly, thats good. When you hit it, the car will accelorate untill red line then shift into 2nd correct? If this is so thats a good thing, that what it should be doing.

 

Sorry for not making myself more clear, normal driving it shifts fine, but if i punch it on occasion it will get up to speed normal but hits the revlimiter before it shifts. like i gun it then right before it shifts it hits the revlimiter then it shifts.

 

its a full throttle shift? make sure it is in overdrive, does it kind of teeter at 6500 for a sec and shift? Keep checking your fluid, try not to fry it cuz that is a hassle. If you just dont like the way it shifts put a B&M shift kit in it those help a lot

 

If your engine is hitting the rev. limiter before it shifts then you probably have an engine driveability problem. Most common is a plugged fuel filter. The pcm is looking for a specific output shaft speed with WOT before it will shift, if the engine will not power the car to that speed the engine will hit the limiter before the shift occurs. The most common complaint is: on the 1-2 shift, the trans will not shift WOT until I back off the throttle. If this is your concern, check sensor inputs, especially tps. If it is ok, then try fuel filter. Good luck.

 

i have the same problem. when i get on it it gets to around 4500 or a little more then revs and pops, and doesnt shift till i let off and get back on it slower. what should we check and how? someone told me something about a clutch pack that needs to be replaced, ive never heard of a clutch pack for automatics? i hope its just somethin unplugged, so what should we check? thanx

 

Ive been through 3 trannys. All of them did that. I do hear a shift kit helps but it doesnt cure it. Ive been trying to find a fix for this for a year now and still havnt found one.
