well when i start my car the first second or two has a weird noise to it... i cant really place what it is...

its like the idles really high but then it goes down... not too sure

its like double the idle sound... not sure but it goes away within a second or two

any ideas as to what it is... and if there is anyway u know i could clairfy myself better ask

 

look at your tach, is it going up or what.

You might be hearing the smog pump (A.I.R. pump). It will turn on when you start the car and stay on until the exhaust heats up to temp.

Is the smog pump what makes that high pitch wine?

 

I can see someone describing the pump noise as a high pitched wine, so I'd have to answer your question with "it could be?"

I hear the smog pump as soon as the key is in the on position, along with the fuel pump priming. Just my .02

 

ohh thats what that high pitch sound is... thought it was the fan

but thats not what it is... it sounds like its from the engine... like something to do with the idle... not sure the rpms are normal
cant describe it... wish i could record it for u... but i have nothing to do it with

its just for 1 or 2 seconds after the engine turns over and the key returns to the on posission.

 

i described it to one of my mechanics he said my hydroclic lifters could be going south...

i noticed the sound stops as soon as the psi of the oil gets to 40... this sound only occurs in the morning when its cold.

 

when my lifters went they made a ticking sound on startup and when oil started circulating they stopped. didnt sound like a whine at all to me.

I also have an lt1.

 

its not a wine its a high occurance tick if u will...

but suggesting the lifters are goin bad should i be worried about my engine?

and if so is there any perfomance parts i can replace it with?
