weird problem come inside!
hi the problem comes when in shift to reverse when im parking ( i got a 94z m6) and if i let go of the clutch slowly i get a clicking sound comming from the back i guess not sure exctly where as it doesnt happen all the time but its getting anoying, anyone have the same problem or does anyknow know what it is? i havent changed tranny fluids in 15k miles or more.
Re: weird problem come inside!
i still get 2 tracks marked when i floor it so the posi isnt going out but how much are those anyways maybe my gears are going bad and its a good time for replacement , i dont want anything harsh i dont street or drag race much at all i just like my fast z , so which gears are good for me , i drive it every day and i like smooth shifts.
Re: weird problem come inside!
the clicking noise is a fairly common concern as these rear ends start to go. as you get on it the locker engages and it just isnt wore out enough to give you an issue yet. when it happened to me i saved up for a new posi and then did everything i could to destroy the stock one once i had enough money for a new one. but if you take it easy it will last a whole lot longer.
for a daily driver that doesnt get raced much i would go 3:73 even on an M6. i have 3:73 in my A4 and love it. 4:10's wouldnt be too bad but you would notice gas mileage wise. i bet if you went to 4:10's you would race it a little more. gears definatley improve the funfactor of driving.
but if you really dont want anything harsh i would just keep driving and not worry about it. if you do anything stupid though that 10 bolt is made of glass and it will let you know what not to do real quick.

Re: weird problem come inside!
If it breaks, you will need to rebuild the POSI unit or upgrade/replace/switch to 12bolt or 9in, etc, endless possibilities. Gears would be the last thing you would need to replace, unless it gernades and destroys them too, or a bearing goes out a wears them unevenly, or something of that nature. How loud is the clicking? If its not too loud, it might have a lot of life left in it. The gears won't affect your smooth shifts or anything like that, all they will do is affect your gas milage
If its a driver, I would stick with your stock 3.42s - but if you end up having to replace them, might as well go 3.73s for sure. I would try a fluid change, with fresh fluid and new GM additive, maybe synthetic or something since you know it has a problem already, then see what happens.

Re: weird problem come inside!
it doesnt sound when i turn or go in 1st gear , at least i only hear it sometimes when i go on reverse and its like when i let go of the clutch slowly, but it only sounds once seems to happen when i go passed a certain amount of realeasing the clutch , and it only 1 click it and its not loud at all. i might not hear it when i turn cuz of the pipes but seems to me that its more of a mechanical problem engaging in my rear end or somehing when i go reverse.
