i have a friend that has a 98 firebird that is having problems with her pop up headlights. when ever she turns the headlights off they come back up after they went down one time alreadymaking a weird sound kinda like a electric motor sound. then when she locks the doors from the inside and shuts the door they pop up make that same weird noise for about 5-8 seconds then they go back down. it also does the same thing when she unlocks her doors with keyless entry and when she locks her doors with keyless entry. is it the motor for the headlights or could it be a short somewhere, or possibly a bad ground? any suggestions would be helpful.

replace both electric motors, if you look the doors with the key remote the car should beap and the running lights should flash, but the head lights should Not come up, if they do the motors are about to go out.

 

i had the same problem and replaced the gears and the lights work as good as new.

almost all strange motor problems can be traced back to the gears inside them, which you can get brand new from Brent Franker for $38 each. This is opposed to the $150 or better (if you do the work) for replacing the entire motor assembly. Before you go ordering anything though, check down to the bottom of this page

and do the free fix. If that doesn't work, try pulling the motor and yank the gear out, see what kind of condition its in. If it looks perfect, your problem is more likely in the headlight motor control box (the motor is just that, a motor. It works or it doesn't.) If the gear looks chewed up or missing/worn teeth, thats your problem. Try installing it so the good teeth are contacting the spiral worm gear (I moved mine 90* I think) or just order a good set from Brent and forget about it forever.

 

i have fixed two different 98 & up cars that were doing the same thing. The free fix in brents site is what I did.
