Way to strengthen main caps w/o splay?

I've heard of main girdles...but haven't turned up any results. The motor I purchased is a 2 bolt main with arp studs and really don't wanna fork out close to a grand to convert. This is a 383 and I would like to run a 200 shot but want a little extra insurance.

Hrm... I believe trick flow makes an SBC main girdle, but I haven't ever used/seen one personally.

I don't believe it'll cost you as much as you think to convert. You can pick up steel caps (3 centers) from oliver/callies/etc. for around $200, and a set of main studs for $65-70. I converted my own block, and it was the first 2bolt --> splayed 4bolt conversion I've ever done & it still didn't take very long. I'd figure you'll spend $270 in parts & 250-300ish on the machinework. After that, maybe $175 to align bore the caps - $700-750 total or so.

If you have a decent 383, then 200hp worth of n2o should put you in the 650hp range... While its not likely that your current setup is going to fly apart or anything, I'd spend the $ on doing it "right" personally, as $700 isnt much in the grand scheme of things IMO

Has anyone ever seen the trickflow version? In the grand scheme you're right...but when you've bought a 12 bolt, stage 3 clutch, set of ported heads, and various other misc. things that go with installing a motor the grand scheme has it's limits. Thanx for the advice!

D'oh - this stuff gets expensive quick, eh

I poked around TF's site & summit, but I may have been mistaken. I know I've seen them for SBC floating around somewhere... ahh well. Good luck with your project.
