Re: Waterpump Questions

Its mechanically driven by the gear that the camshaft is on. So unless the impeller for the pump is no longer press fitted to the spindle its pretty much good. The whine you hear is the Smog pump, its directly under the ignition coil.
how old is the radiator, it might be plugged.

Re: Waterpump Questions

brand new radiator waterpumps about a year old i always replace them every year have lifetime warrenty they always go bad lol. but would it not work if there was no water in waterpump i was gonna try filling waterpump up with water and putting everything back together. think that would solve it out here in the dark trying to get this car right.

Re: Waterpump Questions

I didn't really study your post but what comes to mind is did you put the coupler back on? A FEW rare cases of the couplers stripping have been reported.

Also a dry cooling system will take up around 4 gallons to fill some of the b-bodies are up a little over 17 quarts even, now you probably did not drain the engine but I don't think many realize just how much capacity there is.

Re: Waterpump Questions

The coupler that goes between the drive coming out of the timing cover and the water pump can becomes stripped. Check there first....

Re: Waterpump Questions

wow bw i thought it was only 2 gallons what i did was fill the water pump up with water and put on the thermostat and housing and now it is running through the system guess all the air made it not work. now i been having some resvoir tank issues it doesnt seem to be sucking fluid in. i know that when the system is hot and the car is turned off the fluid pushes back up to the tank so why is it not sucking in fluid i heard there could be a air leak but it is a brand new tank.

Re: Waterpump Questions

When the radiator cools down, the coolant contracts, and the resulting vacuum pulls the coolant in the reservoir back up the overflow hose. If there is a pinhole in the rubber line, you lose the vacuum and it can't pull the coolant back up the tube.
