Water Pump Went...

I am changing my valvetrain completely along with a XE227/233 Cam. The guy the water pump isn't in the best shape. Should I put on an aftermarket one? Because I was told by two people I should just put a brand new stock one in. So I decided to go with that. I want to make sure I didn't need an aftermarket one.

When would you need an aftermarket one?

Keep your housing, knock the crap out of it, make a couple notches, and bolt in a CSI electric.

you have to notch it to run a csi? i have the mezire and i plugged the hole in the cover with jb weld, pushed the blade out of the housing, installed the freze plug and bolted it on. how is the csi different?

AFAIK there are no choices besides the GM pump or an electric pump. The OEM pump will likely last longer than an electric pump. But the electric pump is easier to change and it is worth a few hp.

Re: Water Pump Went...

From the way I understand what I was told on the phone, it's notched so that it can sit further into the water pump housing and give more clearance from the fans in front. I was "told" that the Meziere sticks out of the housing further and requires (may require) some clearancing of the fan?

Any truth to that?

i know that my CSI pump sits really close to the housing. if the other pump does stick out farther the clearence shouldnt be that big of a deal to fix.

Yeah he was saying 6 of one, half-dozen of the other. You either clearance the pump for the CSI or the fan shroud thingy for the Meziere.

Oh i see now. All i did was trim a tiny piece about the size and shape of a big block crank key it was easy. I dont know about the csi but the mezire sounds easier glad i got it

Re: Water Pump Went...

Really the CSI was not hard. sat it on there, marked the 4 little notches with a sharpie, and used about 10 minutes with a dremel (taking my time) to remove the small amount neccesary.....
