Water Pump????

about a month ago my car temp would spike then in a materr of 10 -30 seconds it would go right back down to 180... When it would spike the heat wouldn't work.So im guessing there is no water getting to the block....Now yesterday the temp guage wont work at all, the heat won't work and the two bleed valves nothing comes out of them..The thermostat was replaced last week and no fix.

Now is it the water pump not working.... ANd if i have to get a new one should i get electric or mech.. The car is rarely driven when im at school.only drive it during the summer.

Squeeze upper radiator hose for pressure with car running.
A spike in the temp, no heat...Check the radiator level with the car running, start out cold with cap removed, if it's full and you said the cars sits, I'm thinking blockage.
It honestly sounds like coolant level is not propoerly serviced

If it bled and full, and only overheats briefly then the temp comes back down, it sounds like coolant flow is stopping intermittently. Mine did that at first, when the pump driveshaft splines were stripped. Mostly at high rpms.

You can pull the cover off the front of the pump and try to rotate the impeller to check. It shouldn't turn. Drain the coolant first, of course.

I think exhaust leaking into the coolant passages could cause the same kind of thing.

what he said ^
mine was throwing me a fit yesterday when I went down town. I had both fans on (manual fan switch) and when I sat at a traffic light the temp would spike near the red, then once I the rpms went up, the temp would go back down. turns out there was alot of air in the system.
