Lets Talk FULL rebuild…

I need a rebuild I would love to add more power but my number 1 concern is reliability! Reliability! Reliability!!!!

I don’t care if I go back all stock! I need to be able to drive from Atlanta to Detroit with out a problem. .

Recently I have had a transmission and a rear end rebuild... now its time to get the engine done…

I’ve been getting prices from $1,999 to $6,999. What am I looking for when it comes to a rebuild?

Can some one please give me a list of things that should be done or that I must have when it comes to a complete rebuild to get this engine back running like a brand new LT1? .?

EVERYTHING from the sanding of the heads to baking the block or whatever? I just need a list to compare what should be done to get where I want to get to what they are willing to do for what I’m paying them. .

I have a brand new electric water pump, alternator and power steering pump on the car so those things are ok

if you need reliability, stock is the way to go - GM designed them to be a 100k mile car without worry (statistically speaking and assuming that it is driven and maintained responsibly).

Do you have everything? What needs to be replaced? I'd venture a guess of parts & labor for a stock re-build to be in the $4k-$5k range.

What's your current mileage? Stockish LT1's have gone well over 200k w/ no need for a rebuild in sight.

Bearings, rings, oil pump, gaskets, water pump, opti, fuel injectors

And the obvious; plugs, wires

Some of these may not be required but they can't hurt if you are looking to get your LT1 running like 'brand new'. And the opti most of the time is a crap-shot even with new ones.

If it ain't broke don't mess with it......
No need to open a can of worms, then you have all the little bugs to work out once you put a new motor in.

I take it your not going to rebuild it your self?
any local machine shop should be able to do a stock rebuild for $2000.....if you want stock, most stuff can be reused

I intend to do the complete engine overhaul on mine when it comes time. I like the character of the LT1 engine, mostly stock. Don't think I'd ever give up the bolt-on stuff, though.

i hate to go off topic but the rebuild kit seems like a great deal from summit...would this be a good kit for a motor thats going to be pushing 390-420 rwhp?

IMO, no

For the OP, what mads do you have right now? You could get a short/long block from Victory Racing or similar sponser and have your reliability...

nothing crazy right now....100% stock block (which doesnt make much but runs awesome right now) headers, exhaust (no cats) intake, th400 (built!) with 3500 edge stall, eaton posi 3.73 gears B&m shifter, tylor wires, ngk55 plugs BH tune (high octane) and probably some other stuff that doesnt help much...i'm probably going to run another season with the motor since i would feel bad to take it apart for nothing since it runs awesome but kinda planning on next winter to do something with the motor unless it still runs awesome but i'nm already getting bored with it...its a b-body so this setup runs 13's which is nothing for f-body guys but i started at 15.8 so its a lot faster for a 100% stock motor even the rockers are stock but i do plan on running le2 set up
