Unhappy Water in the exhaust!!!

It poured down here like crazy, the exhaust of the vehicle went under (dual pipes into muffler) So I put the car on jackstands, the water receded and I lowered it, tried to start it. and It made some ugly noise, which my chick and her brother both sounded like i "hit something" It didnt start just made that ugly noise.

What do I need to do here guys?? I was scared from the noise it made and did not wanna try and restart it due to the creepy LOUD noise it made, dont wanna mess nothing up...if i didnt already

Please let me know something guys thank you in advance.

If the water was high enough to fill the exhaust system, it was probably high enough to soak the Opti and other ignition parts. Hopefully it will dry out.

The "ugly noise" description is sort of vague. Do you have a cold air intake in the drivers front fender, and is it possible the filter was submerged in water, causing water to enter the engine and hydrolock it? That would make a noise that sounds like you hit something, and that's about the last noise you would hear.

The front end was close the whole body was ALMOST in the water, so I imagine the front filter was CLOSE but when I jacked the car up in the front the tail pipes went under and when I raised the read end Im pretty sure it "scooped" up some water.

As for the air filter I wanna say it was out of water pretty well, the water was right at the bottom of the body...and then i raised it the exhaust took in water Im sure...but Im really worried I checked the filter and it wasnt wet the air box was dry as well.

Would the exhaust be so full that it wont let the engine turn, making that noise?

Still have the same question with exhaust been thinking about this for a while, I remm that I had the front end on Jack stands by where the factory a frame meets the k member? Its like the. Only flat surface about a foot in behind either wheel, next to a bolt and nut.....WELL it slid off when I was dropping the front left (right side slid off). I'm thinking maybe the starter or something got hit by the stand when. The car slid off, would this be making a ugly. "Collision" type sound?? And keeping the car from starting?

Or is it because my exhaust can't breath from all the water in its muffler?

Help us help you. Describe exactly what happened... you didn't say the car slipped off the jack stands before.

Have you looked under the car yet? Does the engine crank or not? I.E. when engaging the starter do the pulleys turn?

Visuals are always helpful also. If you aren't sure of something a video and/or pictures can greatly help us see what you see.

This all happened pretty late yesterday, I had forgotten about the car sliding off on the right side.

In order of things happening

1. It rained BAD got right at body level
2. I raised the front (supported with jackstands)
3. Looked at rear mufflers under water....
4. Raised the rear of car one side at a time (supported with jackstands)
5. Water Receded
6. I lowered car one corner at a time
7. Front right side slid off as I was lowering left side
8. tried to start car
9. My girl and her brother both said it sounded like a collision from inside the house. To me it was just LOUD. I felt it do something (a jerk from underneath car) but literally for a millisecond. It didnt seem like there was a response from the engine (it was all to brief).

I did not want to start it after hearing that noise it was ugly to say the least.

Also have not looked at the underneath as I was in pajamas and it was still raining outside. But the head of the jack stand got a decent gouge in the paint that wasnt there before, So i imagine it got something pretty good.

Assessing the damage should be next then. Jack up the right side and peek underneath.

I called the muffler shop here in town he said that even if the exhaust got water into it, it should still spit that water out the pipes no problem...maybe run a little odd until the water all evaporates but it should still start up.

I also found this picture on shoebox's site;

to me it looks like the starter is right around the area it would have slipped off onto. Anyone know for sure? Its the one flat area of the framing where the bolt is maybe about a foot in from the side, on either side (where I had it supported until it slipped off on the right side).

You mean on the K member?

I don't know what to tell you... it might have damaged the starter... you should easily be able to see if it did once you look.

Since you aren't going to be near the car till Friday/Saturday just sit tight. She will wait for you

Yes I believe it is the k member where it meets the lower control arm. Its one of the only flat areas to put a stand and theres a bolt there as well.

Thank you for following up so quickly on my posts. Im just trying to get a little ease of mind.

After that ugly loud noise it made when trying to start. I turned the key forward to on but engine off and everything lit up okay and powered on (after trying to start).

Well that is good. That means you still have power and the battery wasn't shorted out when the jack stand slipped. (the terminal on the starter solenoid is always live.)

When I work on my car I just jack up the K member then put jack stands where the spare tire jack should go then lower the car onto the stands but keep the jack on the K member with some tension. This way it distributes the load and won't put too much stress on anything... plus it saves time not having to pump the jack to the K member level... I'm lazy like that.

Let us know what you find

Okay so my woman checked it out for me (completely sexy wish I couldve been there for that) She said the starter has a big *** crack in it, my guess is the car slid off it and the starter took the beating. She said none of the bolts were pulled out of their holes just that the starter has a ugly crack running the length of it.

So first things first need to get it running...new starter time. I want something that will turn the engine over nice and fast (one good step towards no problems with a remote start) so I found a "Powermaster XS Torque 9502" What all do we have to say about it?

Or any other recommendations are very much appreciated please let me know will be purchasing tomm morning!!!

PS found that starter on summit racing
