I was at the car wash and was washing the engine, then i go to crank it and nothin. just turned over like no spark. Is the opti that fragile? could have been somethin else. the car cranked on after bout 20 min. never did it again.

You probably got the opti wet...... Usually takes about a day to dry out.... Or you could try using a blow dryer....
Always keep the engine running when cleaning and dont spray on or near the opti.... I learn the hard way too...

You more than likely fried the optispark. Washing the engine bay directly is a standard LT1 NO-NO.
i would of done the same thing but luckily my dad was the one who took it to the car wash when i was 16..and washed under the hood
...i didn't know about my unvented opti at the time obviously neather did he..
that made it a little cheaper on me

I hope you didnt go waterhose happy and start spraying the whole engine down....I see guys at those manual car washes do that and I think, Oh man is that car screwed!
I just get a spray bottle with watered down simple green, soft toothbrush and whole bunch of rags and go to town on it. I use various skinny objects that I wrap in my shop rags and then wedge it it the lil grooves and crannies. I use a toothbrush and lightly mist spray the intake elbow, valve covers and whatever else. I have this wax stuff I use on my car and I also use it in the engine bay sheet panels. The wax is called "Carnu-B". it's so shiny that opening the hood is no prob cuz everthing looks nice & shinny. Apply it to the painted wheel well panels only. I do it once a month and spend all early morning saturday making it look all pretty. And then I bust out with the dremel to buff my intake manifold where the fuel rails are. Just given ya some alternative ideas....

Buy a used, not too abused, lt1, 4-bolt engine.
Use the Opti for your TA.
Build yourself a 396 out of the used engine (over a period of time).
Result: You get an optispark AND something to play with for the future.JMHO

Bah...some of us are just lucky I guess, but I have washed my motor at the car wash since day one. To make matters worse, I first soak it with engine cleaner, let it sit while I wash the rest of the car, then hose it off with the final rinse setting. Never had a problem with the Opti...
Water in several of the connectors could cause a similar condition...it doesn't mean the Opti has water in it though.
