Want to remove PS,AC and heater core
Want to remove PS,AC and heater core
I've been hearing that I need a bracket for the A/C delete. Why would I need a bracket. If so,where can I get one.Has anyone here removed there PS.What kind of belt would I need for the PS and the AC.Is the heater core in the dash.Whats involved in taking that out.I need to loose some weight up front. Mike
If you ONLY remove the A/C, you need an idler pulley to replace the A/C compressor pulley. Look at the serpentine belt routing and you will see why. The idler pulley comes combined with the 1LE bracket to bolt where the stock compressor was.
If you remove BOTH A/C and PS, the typical approach is to drop the alternator down under the engine, and use the alternator relocation bracket from Madman Racing, or a lower cost home made one. That way you drive the alternator direct from the crank pulley with no tensioner.
Haven't pulled the heater core or A/C evaporator out yet, but based on the instructions in Chilton, you need to go in from the dash side and start ripping everything out until you get to the heater box. If your "going in", you might as well pull the airbag out of the passenger side.

Just what Fred mentined is about what you need to do. Regarding the dash, there are a ton of little screws you need to remove in addition to a few other parts...if you need some pics, I have a few for you.
I've got a few good pictures of what one looks like on my site.
Ours is made from T6061 billet aluminum.
Email me if you have any questions.
