Want To Make Radiator Sit Straight Up
Re: Want To Make Radiator Sit Straight Up
Yeah, Im Puting A S/c On My Car And Was Thinking I'd Get A Hole Hell Of Lot Mot Space By Doing This. And Yes I Figured Im Going To Have To Get A Shorter Radiator. Kinda Ovious
Re: Want To Make Radiator Sit Straight Up
i wouldnt imagine it being that hard, considering you have access to some steel, a welder and some new rubber pads to mount the radiator on with.
just make sure its thick enough of a core to compensate for the reduced height. also, GM put a lot of time and effort into maximizing the airflow to the radiator...and it might cause more front end lift at higher speeds
so...i think if you can weld some new brackets or have someone do it to your drawings, you should be able to make it work.
good luck and post pics

Re: Want To Make Radiator Sit Straight Up
You shouldn't have any clearance problems with a supercharger unless you're running 12 rib belts or a cog setup. I have a 10 rib vortech setup and it clears everything just fine with the stock radiator, fans, and AC equipment.
Re: Want To Make Radiator Sit Straight Up
The only way to tilt it upright and increase the space in front of the engine is to move the top of the radiator forward. Its already against the sheet metal of the upper radiator support. You'd hav to cut it out a bit to allow the top of the radiator to move forward. Then being shorter, you need more dpeth, so you just gave up most of what you gained.
This setup has a Vortech that's probably twice as big as anything you could throw at an LT1, and its driven by a 4" cogged belt... and the radiator - short and chunky as it is - is still tilted back so its behind the upper support.
